Résumé
A Brussels based SME designs, develops and produces software and electronic medical devices in order to facilitate, simplify and increase the accuracy of diagnoses. The company has developed a software for the assessment of the arterial function, allowing doctors to detect cardiovascular risks in patients.
The SME wants to develop its distribution channels worldwide and is looking for partners with the necessary technical competences for licensing, joint venture or commercial agreements.
Description complète
A Brussels based company designs, develops and produces software and electronic medical devices in order to facilitate, simplify and increase the accuracy of diagnoses. Currently, it focuses its research on the development of software and new medical devices to assess cardiovascular risks, in particular within the endothelial function.
Endothelial dysfunction is considered to be the first stage of atherosclerosis. Impaired endothelial function is recognized as an early and modulating process in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease. The assessment and characterization of endothelial function in the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases is a topic of both clinical and research importance.
Endothelial function is actually often quantified by flow-mediated dilation (FMD), which represents the endothelium-dependent relaxation of a conduit artery - typically the brachial artery due to an increased blood flow. Brachial artery reactivity is a frequently used non-invasive ultrasonographic assessment of FMD that indicates endothelium-dependent response to shear stress. This measure is a marker for increased cardiovascular risk, and correlates with impaired endothelium-dependent relaxation in the coronary arteries.
However, complementary computerized image analysis techniques are still very desirable to give accuracy and objectivity to the measurements. The company offers a system for the automatic measurement of flow-mediated dilation (FMD), intima-media thickness (IMT) and diameter of artery (wall tracking) for the assessment of the arterial function. This allows doctors to detect cardiovascular risks in patients.
The SME is a Brussels spin-off of two departments (Institut Superieur Industriel de Bruxelles ISIB and Institut d'Enseignement Superieur d'Ergotherapie et de Kinesitherapie ISEK) of the University College Paul-Henri Spaak and has received funding from the Institute for the encouragement of Scientific Research and Innovation of Brussels (ISRIB) of the Brussels-Capital Region.
Aspects innovants
The product is a non-invasive cardiovascular risk assessment software. Impaired endothelial function is an early event in atherogenesis and cardiovascular diseases and can be evaluated by the Flow-Mediated Dilation (FMD) of the brachial artery. FMD is impaired in patients with cardiovascular disease risks such as smoking, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, atherogenesis, diabetes...
The software was developed in order to accurately evaluate the Flow-Mediated Dilation (FMD) and the Intima-Media Thickness (IMT). Both measurements are non-invasive and provide assessments of the cardiovascular risk. - Automatic detection of the arterys walls by an advanced algorithm
- Automatic detection of the artery maximum dilated diameter
- Real-time wall tracking processing
- Easy navigation and logical usability during the patient's examen
