Résumé
An international consortium coordinated by an Estonian university is looking for an industrial partner to a project aiming to create a methodology and software framework for development and verification of intelligent self-organizing and autonomous multi-robot systems. A suitable partner is active in development and production of outdoor robots.
Description complète
The project builds upon the work of a previous FP7 project, which made advances in developing service oriented software architecture for robot swarms and multi-robot systems. The project implemented an ambient knowledge environment of robots, computers, smart environment sensors, that integrates various communication and computation technologies.
The methods and technology created under the preceding project provide a solid ground for extending the solutions for long term, safety critical autonomous missions. These missions must provide self-management and self-healing services to achieve mission success. The key factors for that are the merge of scalable planning and cognition in Uncertain and Large-Scale Multi-Agent Environments and high dependability of the robot group as a whole.
Based on the results of the previous project, the coordinating team has proposed a new research project to create a methodology and software framework for development and verification of intelligent self-organizing and autonomous multi-robot systems. The project aims to develop formal methods for designing mission-specific team configurations, dynamic distributed task allocation and coordination methods, also initialization of the rule set and reasoners that are consistent with mission specifics. Autonomous agents can act intelligently, if they learn how their actions affect the world and use this knowledge to respond to their goals. When an agent has acted for a while, it can use its accumulated knowledge about actions in the domain to make better decisions.
The proposed systems will allow simple robots to:
" communicate on a large scale to divide tasks for increasing the functionality of the robot group (scalability);
" learn from the experience of individual swarm members via the global and/or local knowledge base, which brings together the scattered knowledge of the group on local level to assure optimal behavior in difficult situations (self-learning);
" Increase the cognitive capabilities of the robot group through non-monotonous reasoning allowing the group to operate autonomously and interact with people in changing environments (autonomy);
" operate successfully with minimal sensing capabilities (cost efficiency).
The competitive advantage of the approach lies in
" the cost effective and seamless integration of cognitive faculties like optimal spatial sampling, unsupervised learning, non-monotonous reasoning into Logic-Based Subsumption Architecture that exhibits real-time performance and, thus, allows navigation, planning and control tasks to perform in highly variable environment conditions.
" The high dependability that is provided by the refinement calculus based mission design method and reactive runtime verification.
