A Swedish research institute has developed a process to provide semi-conductive to conductive wood veneers, maintaining their strength and lightweight properties. In addition, these veneers can possess a wide range of properties, including fire retardance, conductivity change with moisture uptake and anti-static properties. Supplying this expertise, the institute is looking for technical collaborators for future development and applications.
The Swedish research institute possesses a wide range of projects and customers, based on the development of wood products. They specialize in polymer/wood properties and manufacturing of wood products.
A conductive polymer is grown in-situ inside the wood fibers, creating a conducting/semi-conducting wood matrix composite. The amount of polymer and dopants can be varied, depending on the desired final properties.
The institute is looking for technical consultancy, joint further development, testing of new applications, adaptation to specific needs and transfer of knowledge in new raw materials.
Wood veneers or blocks impregnated with conductive polymers provide a template for conductive polymer particles with strength and low cost, without the high density, weight, and shedding of traditional plastic matrix composites. In addition, exposure to water does not cause dissolution of the composite.
